It was during the 1800's that Master Jeweler Antonio Tomassi bid farewell to his Old World European family and ventured across the Atlantic Ocean to settle in Providence, Rhode Island. Mr. Tomassi brought with him the knowledge, skills, and family tradition of fine workmanship and joined it with the distinctly romantic jewelry motifs of the Victorian Era.
It was in Providence (then America's fine jewelry manufacturing capital) that Mr. Tomassi prospered. He married, had a family, a workshop and a retail store. As technology advanced, Mr. Tomassi realized the fine workmanship of the jewelry he and his peers were creating was soon to be a thing of the past. No longer would there be apprentices to learn Old World ways by spending years upon years under the Master's tutelage. Times were rapidly changing...telephones, electricity, automobiles, moving pictures. No longer would treasures be created for the individual; progress demanded production for the masses.
According to legend, as Mr. Tomassi saw these changes occurring he decided to leave a dazzling legacy for his granddaughter who, in his heart and mind, would be named Abigail. He lovingly chose a wide array of jewelry capturing the beauty, quality and superb attention to details that typified the sentimentality of the Victorian Era.
These thousands of pieces, each special and never worn, were hidden away over the decades in the basement of the house where Mr. Tomassi and his family once lived -- under the very floor that once held his shop.
Through twists of fate worthy of a Victorian romance novel, almost a century passed with the treasure undisturbed. Without surviving relatives, the last Tomassi child revealed his father's amazing legacy, and the entire collection was acquired by jewelers, who in Mr. Tomassi's honor, renamed their entire store to reflect the once in a lifetime collection that is Abigail's HeirloomsTM.
Realizing the historic significance and aesthetic importance of the pristine condition jewelry, many authors, historians and collectors have made the trip to view, admire and purchase the unique Abigail's HeirloomsTM.
